Fit and fabulous over 40: Embracing the journey- first day in the gym

Life is a rollercoaster with its ups and downs and my fitness journey took a backseat in my life. Whether it was due to a busy schedule, personal challenges, or unexpected events, I was taking a few months off from the gym which is not uncommon in my life. However, the important thing is not how long I've been away but my determination to return stronger than ever. Stepping into the gym after some time off was on one hand exciting and motivated me, on the other hand, there was some self-doubt about my abilities. I believe its normal to feel a bit rusty at the beginning and I also know it is going to be hard but easier day by day.

One of the biggest challenges of returning to the gym after a break is not expecting too much of myself too soon. I might be tempted to pick up where I left off, but it's crucial to remember that my body might need some time to adjust. I am trying to set realistic expectations and start with a lighter workout to prevent injuries and disappointment. I also know the progress will be slow but I don't mind since being back in the gym gave me the long awaited sense of achievement.

First day in the gym after a break can be made more comfortable with the support of friends, family, or gym buddies. Surrounding ourselves with people who motivate and encourage us can have a significant impact on our journey back to fitness. Unfortunately I don't have this support, so I need to push myself. If I don't do it no-one will. I know I can not expect immediate results, so I am trying to embrace the process. I trust that progress will come with dedication and consistency. I try to remember that every day will be an opportunity to grow stronger not just mentally but physically as well. I know there will be set backs, but I will try to stay consistent to be fit and fabulous again. .
